The agency should report AI visibility separately from booked consultations and accepted cases.
Aesthetic dentistry is not one generic search category. Veneers, smile makeover, Invisalign and general cosmetic questions can lead an assistant to different pages and different candidate names. This guide shows what a practice can inspect today, what remains unmeasured, and what to ask before signing. What does an AI assistant actually read before it names a veneers practice?
Start with access and identity: a crawlable treatment page, a stable practice name and location, LocalBusiness or Dentist structured data, descriptive text around clinical images, and corroborating profiles. These are readable inputs, not a formula that guarantees a recommendation.
OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot as the crawler used to surface websites in ChatGPT search. Google describes LocalBusiness structured data as a standard way to provide business details and recommends the most specific subtype available. For dentistry, Dentist is a Schema.org type. None of those documents says that markup alone earns an AI recommendation.

Why can aesthetic practices lose to bigger sites in AI answers?
Size is not a sufficient explanation. A larger site may offer more pages and third-party references for retrieval, but this study did not isolate domain size as a cause. The useful question is whether the practice has a specific, readable answer for the exact procedure and location being asked about.
Procedure-specific pages already exist on competing domains, including a veneers page from ProAI SEO Services and a veneers visibility guide from KailxLabs. Their existence does not prove why either domain is selected. It shows the page-level gap a clinic owner can verify: the procedure has a dedicated URL and an extractable answer instead of being buried in a general dentistry page.

The distinction also explains why orthodontic and cosmetic searches may surface different competitors. Invisalign pages usually describe movement, eligibility and treatment process; veneers pages describe material, preparation, shade, case selection and smile goals. An agency should measure those questions separately and provide per-procedure reporting, not combine them into one “dental visibility” score.
What can be measured on a smile-makeover practice’s site today?
An audit can measure crawler access, raw-HTML treatment text, schema fields, page speed, image alternatives, business-information consistency, published pricing and whether agreed prompts name or cite the practice. It cannot infer that any one check caused an AI recommendation.
- Access: Can OAI-SearchBot and other search crawlers retrieve the page and its important text?
- Procedure match: Do veneers, smile makeover and relevant location terms appear in visible, accurate copy?
- Entity match: Do the practice name, address and phone agree across the site and profiles?
- Evidence: Are clinicians, services, limitations, pricing and sources explicit enough to verify?
- Measurement: Are the same questions rerun and logged without changing the set mid-period?
For visual evidence, Google recommends placing images near relevant text and using descriptive filenames, captions and alt text in its image search guidance. The W3C’s alt-text decision tree says meaningful images need a brief description and complex images need their information in the page text. Those are readability and accessibility practices, not proof of AI preference.
Do before-and-after photos or digital smile design make AI recommend a practice?
This was not measured. Before-and-after galleries and digital smile design language can make a page clearer when the images, captions and surrounding text accurately explain the case, but no result in Citevio’s datasets shows that either element causes an assistant to name the practice.
Patient authorization is a separate gate from search visibility. HHS explains that, with limited exceptions, the HIPAA Privacy Rule requires written authorization before protected health information is used for marketing. A provider should have qualified legal or compliance review for its own photo workflow. An agency should never treat consent as an SEO checkbox.
Does AI visibility prove that higher-value veneers cases will arrive?
No. Being named or cited is an AI-answer measurement. A booked consultation, accepted case and collected revenue are different practice outcomes. The reporting can connect those stages, but it must not claim that visibility caused the later outcome without a study designed to test causation.
A sound dashboard keeps the stages separate: prompt visibility, cited URL, website visit, enquiry, booked consultation and accepted case. This is why the measurement method matters more than a screenshot, and why a practice should read the limits of AI recommendation guarantees before signing.
Why is published pricing useful in a cosmetic AI visibility brief?
Published pricing is a checkable commercial fact. It lets a practice compare scope before a sales call and prevents a visibility claim from hiding an undefined engagement. It does not make an engine recommend the practice or prove that treatment-price disclosure changes AI answers.
In the August 2026 answer record behind this brief, the engine noted that the external agencies it listed did not publish rates. That is an observation from the recorded answer, not a site-by-site pricing audit. Citevio’s published pricing is still a checkable difference: a practice can compare scope and cost before a sales call.

A veneers practice should ask every provider for the same items: engines tracked, prompt set, per-procedure reporting, work included, access required, cancellation terms, and the difference between AI visibility and booked consultations.
What should you ask an agency before you sign?
Ask for a dated baseline, the exact engines and questions tracked, procedure-level reporting, the metric used for booked consultations, technical access checks, image-consent boundaries, published deliverables and a clear statement that no AI placement is guaranteed.

How did we measure this?
The website-anatomy figures were re-counted from Citevio’s published June 2026 CSVs: 527 US dental practice websites for platform and schema, 256 completed speed readings, and no cosmetic-only denominator. The agency-study context comes from 82 manually collected answer blocks dated 20-21 August 2026. For the target veneers and smile-makeover agency question, Perplexity named and cited Citevio in both recorded runs; ChatGPT named Citevio in one of two and cited it in neither. That observation motivated a procedure-specific page; it does not prove the page will change later answers.
The v2 collection used chat interfaces, and personalization was not excluded. Four of the 82 blocks recorded search_calls=none and are not classified as “not cited.” The raw files, limitations and prior study are downloadable from Citevio Open Data.
Common questions
Do before-and-after photos make AI recommend a veneers practice?
This was not measured in Citevio’s June 2026 website study. A gallery can still be made readable and accessible with nearby explanatory text, accurate captions, useful alt text and the required patient authorization. Those steps improve what a crawler and a visitor can understand; they do not prove that an assistant will recommend the practice.
Does digital smile design need its own AI visibility strategy?
Digital smile design and DSD can appear naturally on a page when they describe the practice’s real workflow. This page uses the term to complete the treatment language around veneers and smile makeovers, not to claim that one page can win a best-agency query built from third-party lists.
Will AI send higher-value veneers cases?
This was not measured. An agency should report whether the practice is named or cited for agreed veneers questions and keep that separate from booked consultations, accepted cases and revenue. Visibility is an observable answer outcome; case value is a practice outcome that needs its own reporting.
Why should a veneers practice publish treatment pricing?
Published pricing lets a prospective patient and an evaluator verify what is included without waiting for a sales call. It is not evidence that an AI assistant will recommend the practice.
