The software tells the team where the chain breaks. It does not publish a treatment page, correct schema or reconcile a practice profile on its own.

How should published prices be read in a comparison?

How does this differ from regular dental SEO?

Regular SEO tries to rank your website in Google's blue links. GEO tries to make your practice the answer an AI gives — which runs on different signals. The four engines use separate data pipelines, so GEO addresses each one distinctly and weighs reviews, structured data and entity consistency more than backlinks or keyword rankings. GEO still needs a minimum technical SEO base to work, but it isn't a link-building or keyword campaign.

ChatGPT leans on Bing's index and business-data providers. Gemini and Google AI Overviews are grounded in your Google Business Profile. Perplexity rewards authority and freshness. Optimizing for one does little for the others, so a real GEO program treats them as four jobs, not one. That's also why "we already do SEO" rarely covers it.

Why do clinics use an agency instead of doing it in-house?

The signals that drive AI recommendations shift frequently and differ by engine, so this is ongoing work, not a one-time fix. A specialist knows how review signals actually behave in each engine's recommended set, how to structure treatment pages so AI can quote them, and how to keep your name, address and phone consistent everywhere AI reads. Most clinics don't have time to track four engines month to month, which is why the work is usually a retainer rather than a single project.

None of this is secret, and a motivated practice could attempt parts of it alone. The catch is maintenance: AI outputs can shift meaningfully from one month to the next, so a foundation set once and left alone decays. How long does it take to see results?

No agency can guarantee that an AI engine will name a practice, and Citevio does not offer that guarantee. AI placement cannot be bought; there is no paid slot in an AI recommendation.

A realistic engagement front-loads the technical and structured-data work, then compounds through reviews and content over the following months. Anyone promising instant, permanent "#1 in ChatGPT" is describing something the technology doesn't actually do.

Does this work differently for a group with several locations?

The method is the same; the surface area is not. To these systems each location is effectively its own entity — its own address, its own profile, its own set of details being compiled from several sources. A group that presents itself as one page with a locations dropdown gives an engine one entity where there should be several, and the answer it can assemble for any single location is correspondingly thin.

That is not a guess about how the engines rank things. It follows from what Google publishes about where the information comes from in the first place: profile information is compiled from "Publicly-available information, such as crawled web content", "Licensed data from third parties", "Users who contribute factual information", and "Information based on Google's interactions with a local place or business". Four inputs, per place. A location that has no page of its own has removed itself from the first of them.

Being a group is therefore not the advantage it looks like on an org chart. More locations means more profiles, more directory entries, more phone numbers and more chances for two sources to disagree about one of them — and no published rule says which version wins when they do. The work multiplies roughly with the number of locations, and so does the failure surface.

For a single-location practice, the logic is identical and the job is smaller: one address, one profile, one set of details to keep in agreement. Nothing here suggests a solo practice is at a structural disadvantage.

Two things we have not measured, and will not imply. First, we hold no multi-location breakdown of our own scan data — the 527-practice study was not cut by group size, so there is no figure here comparing groups to single sites, and any that appeared would be invented. Second, whether larger practices are named more often by AI engines was never tested. Size and being named have not been measured against each other in our data.

Geography, unlike group size, is a variable we did measure — but only for one thing, and it is worth being precise about which. In our July 2026 robots.txt study, the share of dental domains blocking at least one of thirteen AI and data crawlers was 15.0% in California (n = 1,751) against 7.0% in Texas (n = 1,151). That is a blocking rate, describing what permission files declare. It says nothing whatsoever about how often practices in either state get named in an answer, and it must not be read that way.

Practically, that means a group engagement is scoped per location rather than per brand: each one gets its own page, its own profile, and its own tracked questions, and the reporting rolls up afterwards.
